This is a story that I wrote in kindergarten. I want to put this story up because it’s a little bit cute to have something from when I was 6. I hope you enjoy this story. (My mom says it’s a bit strange, but I like it.)
Once there was a little girl who had no faith in herself. She waits and waits for something to happen to her, but it never happens.
Then, she says, “I don’t like living in this place. I live in Oceanland. It’s just so lonely. There are farms outside of it. There’s a duck pond. Everything looks so fun. But . . . but, I’m lonely.”
Then one day, a girl named Chloe says to her friends, “Come on, guys, look at this little girl. She needs a friend.” (Chloe says that because she’s a very good friend.)
Chloe goes over to the little girl and says, “What’s your name? I’m Chloe!” (And, she pointed her thumb at herself.)
And, the little girl says shyly, “Martha.”
Chloe says, “These are my friends, Jane and Emily.”
“Hi,” says Jane.
“Guys, I think she is a little shy,” says Emily.
Then, Chloe whispers to her friends, “Well, I guess we could ask her if she knows how to read and write.”
“That’s a good idea,” says Jane. She has a bag and a little purse. Inside of the bag is school books (a coloring book, a math book, and a book that they can read). In her little purse, she has a pencil case, three boxes of crayons, five sticks of glue, two things of tape, and 15 pieces of paper. (Jane has all this stuff because she is rich.)
Emily takes a piece of paper from Jane. Then she writes: My name is Martha. Can you read this? She hands the paper to Martha.
“Can you read this?” says Jane.
Martha says, “Yes. Today is a day full of wonderful ponies.”
Then, Chloe says, “No, Martha, listen to me say it. My, my … n … ame … is … Mar … th … th … a. Can you try to say it now?”
Then, Martha says, “My, my na . . . me is Mar . . .tha. Can you try to say it now?”
“No, you just say, My name is, and I’ll say Mar, and then you try to say tha,” says Chloe.
Martha says, “My name kis . . .”
“Mar,” says Chloe.
“Tha,” says Martha.
And Jane says, “No, Martha, it’s is not kis.”
Martha says, “My name is Mar . . .tha!”
Chloe, Jane, and Emily start to clap. They clap so hard that their hands start to hurt.
Jane whispers to Emily, “I think we should teach her how to write.” And, Emily whispers the same thing to Chloe.
Then, Emily gets another piece of paper out of her pocket and takes a pencil from Jane. She writes Marth_____. (She leaves a line instead of putting the a.)
Chloe takes the paper from Emily and says, “Martha, put the a right there and then try to read it.”
Martha puts the a . . . well, she put the capital A.
Chloe says, “No, Martha, a lowercase a. It looks like this: a.”
Martha puts a lowercase a. And, she reads, “Mar . . . ta.”
“No,” says Chloe, “Martha. The –th– makes the th sound. Say it again.”
“Mar . . . tha!”
“You did it!” says Chloe and Emily.
Jane takes out a flag and draws a picture of Martha and writes the name Martha. She throws the flag up in the air and waves it around and around.
Chloe and Emily clap, clap, clap, and clap. Chloe’s hands hurt so much she has to pat her lap very gently. Emily keeps on clapping with her hands and doesn’t stop.
Then, all the girls run off into a deep forest that is beyond their boundaries. Then, the girls run into a cave. Emily runs around the room while Jane takes out some pieces of paper. Chloe says something and tells Martha to copy it.
Then, Emily stops running. Jane drops the paper. Chloe drops her mouth open.
Martha stares at all three of them and yells, “What’s the matter!!!”
Emily and Jane cover their ears. And, Chloe says, “Be quiet. We hear something.”
Then, Martha hears it . . . . bump, bump, bump, bump.
Then suddenly, Jane says, “It’s a bear.”
And Emily says, “No, it’s a wolf.”
And Chloe adds, “Guys, I’m kind of scared, but I think it’s a hyena . . . that escaped from the zoo.”
Then, Martha yells, “No! It’s a giant!”
Jane and Emily cover their ears again. And, Chloe says, “Stop it. We’re trying to figure out what it is, but we’re too scared to go out of the cave.”
Emily uncovers her ears and says, “Martha, you can’t yell. If it is one of the things we think it is, it might try to eat us.”
Then Jane whispers, “Yeah, and if it eats us, our brothers , Chloe’s cousin, and our parents won’t be able to find us. And, they won’t find our bones because we’re in the tummy of the thing!”
Emily and Chloe say, “SHHHH!!!”
Martha says, “Guys, you can’t yell that loud.”
Then, they hear footprints. Jane closes her eyes. Emily hugs herself and huddles up close to Jane.
Chloe looks outside and says, “Guys, it’s my cousin and your brothers. Martha, it’s even your brother, too.”
The boys can’t see the girls. They look all over. Then, Chloe hears a sound.
“AHHHHHHH!” the boys scream.
Chloe, Jane, and Emily run outside. Martha just peeks.
Chloe, Jane, and Emily run, but Jane gets picked up by a giant monster. It has giraffe legs and a giant’s arms and a zebra head. It looks like it has red eyes.
Chloe and Jane look carefully. Then, they say together, “Those look like Mr. Took’s eyes!”
Martha says, “Who’s Mr. Took?”
Emily says, “Yeah, it’s not like he’s the monster.”
Then, Jane says, “He’s our neighbor.”
“Our neighbor?” says Emily.
“Yeah,” says Chloe, “Jane and I live one house down from each other and Mr. Took is the one between us.”
Jane screamed, “Ahhhh! Guys, he’s going to eat me.”
Then, Jane takes her hands and pulls the mask off as hard as she can. And, she sees Mr. Took.
She screams, “How are you so tall?”
He looks around and says, “I’m on trees.”
Chloe says, “How did you get up there?”
Emily asks Mr. Took, “Did you climb up those trees and get to the top? I think that is correct.”
“Yes it is,” says Mr. Took. “What a smart little lady.”
Then, Martha sighs, “I wish I was as smart.”
Martha takes a piece of paper that Jane has. She writes down: My name is Martha. My brother and I are core poor. I was not happy in my land until three little girls came up. Thank you.
She gets a piece of tape that Jane has. She puts the piece of tape on the paper. She goes over to Mr. Took and tapes it on him because he had gotten out of that silly costume.
She says, “Yep, it’s the truth.”
Mr. Took hugs her and so do all the other girls. The boys come running and they see everyone hugging. The boys run to their sisters and join the circle of hugging. Chloe hugs her cousin as hard as she can.
Martha and Logan, her brother, run back home and so does everybody else.
