Happy Halloween!

1 o’clock
Thunder rolls
2 o’clock
Doors creak
3 o’clock
All is dark
4 o’clock
Lightning cracks
5 o’clock
Blood drips
6 o’clock
Chains rattle
7 o’clock
Ghosts moan
8 o’clock
Lights flicker
9 o’clock
Wind whips
10 o’clock
Branches snap
11 o’clock
Monsters creep
Midnight
They are watching.
Boo.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

Yes, it’s true, I am rereading Harry Potter. This is my sixth time reading the series, and it gets better every time. The magic always hits me in the gut, and I get the wondrous feeling of discovering this universe. Time and time again, I love this book. It is witty, sweet, charming, and thought-provoking. Harry, Ron, and Hermione have been a part of my life for a very long time. This book is beautiful and I am thrilled to be reading it again.

What Am I?

What Am I?

Twitching and shivering
Holding hands with the breeze
Red and orange
I match the oak trees

I may be small, but I have power
I’m a package deal with winter
That is, if I fall
What am I?

Farewell October

October whispers goodbye as cold, dark hands wrench it away. It is long gone, in the claws of winter. But in two days, the night will stretch as far as it can, on it’s tippy toes so that Halloween night lasts till dawn. What with chocolate, hard candies, mints, and pastries, our stomach aches will keep us up half the night anyhow. Halloween breathes down my neck, icy cold and yet warm and soothing. It’s looks say “Stay out!” but it’s voice says “Come in.” Now I will blink a few times and November will be here. Only a few leaves left. Which will be the last one standing?

Rabbit Hole

Down I go.
Down the rabbit hole.
Lost and confused
In a convoluted maze
Of passion, emotion, and fear.
Where am I?
I’m here!
In these dank tunnels.
Scary and sad,
Exciting and bright.
Yet not quite,
Because the rabbit hole
Is very dark.
I’m alone.
Down I go.

The Squirrel’s Meal

Another falling…
Into the mouth
Of a hungry squirrel.
The bushy tail
Spikes up.
The acorn
Round, and
Brown…
The acorn is
Gone.

Gone!
The acorn is
Brown,
Round and
The acorn
Spikes up
The bushy tail
Of a hungry squirrel.
Into the mouth
Another falling…!

The Three Point Shot

Losing? My fault?
Ten seconds
Man-to-man
I lost my man…
Shoot,
A three-pointer…
Swish!

Swish.
A three-pointer?
Shoot!
I lost my man.
Man-to-man
Ten seconds
Losing; my fault.

Falling Into Winter

Winter is around the corner,

Her cold air breathing down my back

But it is still fall.

It is time for apples, cocoa, jeans, scarves, plaid, red and yellow leaves, orange sunsets, creamy donuts and pastries.

It is still fall.

Just barely.

Buffalo Wild Wings

If you go to Buffalo Wild Wings, beware of screaming fans. Beware of flaming wings. And if you are like me, bring a book. Or your phone. Yeah… At least my brother is paying. 😏
