Always disappear.
You never pack enough pairs.
Socks are annoying.
Grass
Tall, long, and swaying
Vroom! Out comes the lawn mower
I got a haircut.

Sweltering weather
The temperature is rising.
Summer has arrived.

Howls loudly in the nighttime
Whispers with the breeze.

Green is sour, yellow’s sweet
Red is in between.

Or is it a…GULP.

Swallowing ocean liners

The Battle of the Seasons
The battle between Spring and Summer has begun causing wild storms to appear in our midst. We all know that Summer will win in the end, for it is already creeping upon us. The temperature is going up, thus more people are trying to protect themselves from the sun’s harmful rays. The rain pours down as a sign that Spring desperately struggles to persevere against Summer.
But Summer has global warming on its side. People have made a terrible mistake by starting global warming, for now they are powerless to stop it. One day, Spring is bravely holding off Summer with its rain and cherry blossoms—but Summer takes Spring out with a powerful burst from its ally, the Sun.
Spring does not give up. It tries to shock Summer with a lightning bolt, but it is too late. Spring was down too long. Summer had come, causing Spring’s close friend Fall to surrender down in the Southern Hemisphere.
The battle has ended, so sit down, relax, and say hello to Summer!
Rainy Day
Rainy days aren’t always fun, but there are lots of things you can do inside to entertain yourself.
Have you ever made a cake? It might just be the perfect indoor activity for you. Cakes taste strong, rich, and fluffy. You and a parent can make a cake that is delicious!
For some people, it’s fun to sit inside and read. A good book can always take you on a trip through your imagination.
It is also fun to do a puzzle. Doing a puzzle is very exciting when you hear the last piece “Click!”
Do you like going to the movies? Well you might be able to make yourself an indoor movie theater. First, look in your kitchen and find some popcorn and candy. Then your whole family can snuggle down in blankets, and have your own movie marathon!
When you wake up and hear that “Pitter patter” on your window, you know that a whole day of indoor fun awaits!
Mississippi in Danger
Splash! I heard a sound like thunder. Suddenly, water leaked through the door. It crashed and thrashed all over my floor as I scrambled to get dressed. I pulled my glasses from my night stand and hurried to my closet. I threw on my plaid skirt and zipped up my coat. I rushed out of the orphanage.
The Mississippi River was flooding like crazy. Everywhere people were running for their lives. The pouring down rain masked my tears. My friends and I followed the orphanage leader. The water was up to my knees. We hurtled through the airport and onto a plane. I sat by a window and watched, powerless, as the amazing state of Mississippi disappeared under the thrashing waves of its own river.
The Desk’s Point of View
I am a desk.
There’s a book box
on top of my head, and a
name tag taped up there, too.
I have journals and folders
inside of my chest—that’s
what I get for being a desk.
Eraser dust is in the air . . .
pencil leads and shreds.
All I see is the back of a chair
and crayons and pencils everywhere!
A girl is always reading in
my friend, the textbook;
and she plunges her snack
on my head every day. That’s
how I know I’m a desk . . .
in every single desk-like way!
Tiki’s Sweet Surprise
BAM!
Tiki fell out of her tree. She was a koala in Australia. Tiki is small, cute, and friendly. She loves sweets. Candy, cake, brownies, muffins, cookies, cupcakes . . . she loves it all. Every day, Tiki takes a cab to Sydney and walks to the bakery. When she gets there, Tiki crawls into the kitchen and takes some sweets.
One hot Sunday afternoon, Tiki was in the bakery kitchen and she saw a wonderful sight. High up on the table she saw a seven-layer, butter cream frosting, cream filled, dark chocolate cake with candy flowers on it. Tiki just knew she had to taste some. She dropped the pile of cookies she was holding and began to climb up the tall table. When she reached the top, Tiki looked up at the enormous cake. It looked so good. Tiki reached both paws into the cake and she stuck her head in the bottom layer.
Mmmmm, it tasted delicious! The rich frosting, the cream filling . . . it was amazing. Tiki pulled her head out of the cake and licked her lips. It tasted so good. Her gaze shifted longingly to the top layer which had many chocolate covered strawberries on it.
She was about to start climbing up the cake when she heard a loud voice coming her way. Terrified, Tiki hid herself in the only thing near her — the cake. Tiki heard footsteps entering the room. She hoped that whoever was out there would not find the large and messy hold in the splendid cake. Tiki heard humming and the sound of a broom sweeping the kitchen floor. After a while, the humming stopped and the heavy footsteps disappeared out of the kitchen. Tiki pulled herself up and out through the hole. She was very messy. She had had enough sweets for the day and decided to head home.
When Tiki looked out of the kitchen she saw it was dark. Tiki froze out of fear. After a few seconds she scampered toward the door. She climbed up the window to the door knob and pulled. It wouldn’t open. Tiki tugged and pushed and kicked but the door would not budge. She climbed back down to the floor and looked up at the moon. She was frightened. Tiki had never slept away from home before. Silent tears fell from her eyes. She made herself comfortable in a big box of cotton candy. Slowly, Tiki closed her eyes, relaxed, and fell asleep.
The next morning, Tiki woke with a start. She had heard a key snap in the door. Tiki ducked under the cotton candy just in time. The door opened and closed as footsteps faded into the kitchen. Tiki dashed out the door and ran all the way home. She never ate cake again . . . mostly.
