Books

Books are like time machines.
They can take you into the future
or back to the past.
Books are like planes.
They can take you
anywhere in the world.
Books are like disguises.
They can make you anyone
that you want to be.

Books are magical adventures that can do anything.

Dolphin

The important thing about a dolphin is that it swims.
It is gray,
and splashes in the sea,
and eats tiny fish,
and lives in the ocean.
But the important thing about a dolphin is that it swims.

Why do opposites always rhyme?

Cinquain Poems

A cinquain is a five-line poem. It has two syllables in the first line, four syllables in the second line, six syllables in the third line, eight syllables in the fourth line, and two syllables in the final line. Here are some I wrote this year.

Practice
Hard work, but fun
Make sure you do your best
If you work hard at practices…
You’ll win

Light bulb
New idea
Plan forming in your mind
Work hard and it will come to life
Genius

Cupcakes
Soft and fluffy
They take you off your feet
Up onto a cloud of frosting
Superb

Fruity
Very juicy
A surge of excitement
Shoots right through me as I taste it
Pure bliss

Reading
What happens next
I cannot put it down
Tragedy happiness equals

Haiku Poems

Here are lots of cool Haiku poems that I have written this year. I hope you enjoy them!

Socks
Always disappear.
You never pack enough pairs.
Socks are annoying.

Grass
Tall, long, and swaying
Vroom! Out comes the lawn mower
I got a haircut.

Heat
Sweltering weather
The temperature is rising.
Summer has arrived.

Tree
Swaying with the wind
Howls loudly in the nighttime
Whispers with the breeze.

Apple
Red, green, and yellow
Green is sour, yellow’s sweet
Red is in between.

Bush
Beckoning branches
Shake! Is it just a rabbit?
Or is it a…GULP.

Ocean
Thrashing, crashing, waves
Swallowing ocean liners
Trapping all islands.

Moon
Reflecting the sun
Surrounded by a dark sky
Glowing, gleaming…gone.

The Desk’s Point of View

I am a desk.
There’s a book box
on top of my head, and a
name tag taped up there, too.

I have journals and folders
inside of my chest—that’s
what I get for being a desk.

Eraser dust is in the air . . .
pencil leads and shreds.
All I see is the back of a chair
and crayons and pencils everywhere!

A girl is always reading in
my friend, the textbook;
and she plunges her snack
on my head every day. That’s
how I know I’m a desk . . .
in every single desk-like way!

Great Falls

Hey friends, we went to Great Falls today. I loved how the water tumbled down the rocks and the wind felt like a light breeze. Great Falls is full of interesting places. Here are some poems I wrote.

Haiku

The raging white foam
Thrashing waves; Silent eddy
Phases of the Great Falls

Diamante

Rapids
white, fast
thrashing, crashing, falling
Filled with bubbly foam
soothing, sitting, calming
blue, slow
Eddy
