I decided to rearrange my books today, and I created the “Bookroom”. I’m quite proud of it, and I thought I’d share! I used non-damaging, repositionable stickers to spell out the quote. Small notebook papers created the category labels. The “Featured Series” can have little trinkets from the book (as seen below for The Selection by Kiera Cass). The featured book will probably be whatever book I just finished. This took about half an hour, and I had tons of fun being a bookworm!
Existence
The universe. Our galaxy. Our solar system. Our planet. The world is so, so, so small.
But it’s huge. I’m one girl, in one town. In one state, in one country, on one continent. One hemisphere. I’m small. The world is so, so, so big.
Every second, someone dies. Every second, someone is born. Life is a constant cycle, a cycle in the midst of a really big universe. A really big existence.
My days stretch into weeks, into years, into decades. The decades make a lifetime. The lifetime makes me. My future is so big and bright and overwhelming. But it’s so, so, so small compared to everything else.
Existence is a cycle of life and death, a circle of big and small. We are small, but we are strong. We can make our existence worthwhile.
I plan each day at a time. Sometime each week. Sometimes I plan for decades in the future.
I don’t know what I’m trying to say with this. Just that existence is big. But so are we. So are our lives.
Oscars
It’s award show season, and the best and brightest is upon us. The Academy Awards make us feel empowered, inspired, and excited. My family has a tradition, which is tons of fun. We all make guesses about what will win, and the winner gets major bragging rights. I’m excited, but something is missing. My mama is flying to the other side of the country, and I miss her! But it’s okay. She’ll be home soon, and I’ll tell her all about the golden, shining, Academy Awards.
The Clock On the Wall
Tick Tock.
Dark oak wood.
Silver frame.
Ornately carved.
Ever so delicate.
Ever so beautiful.
Numbers, painstakingly written.
Thick, black ink.
Something so old,
So simple.
Ticking away
The time
We have left.
Tick Tock.
The Sky vs. The Ground
Light, fluffy flakes
Not
Dangerous.
The ground is gone
Fields of white
Below.
Mounds of white snow
Ah.
AHHHH!
Mounds of white snow!
Below
Fields of white?
The ground is gone.
Dangerous!
Not
Light, fluffy, flakes
Torn Over TV
So torn
What to do?
At eight o’clock
There are two
Gravity Falls
The series finale
So important
But then there’s the Grammy’s!
Mabel vs. Taylor
Bill vs. Hamilton
Dipper vs. Adele
Which do I watch live?
Which to I watch first?
So many shows
So little time.
We are all one species
We all share one home
Why is no one thinking,
“Gosh, we have it wrong.”
We are all one unit
We all share this space
None of it should matter
Gender, religion, race.
Grandpa’s Bday
Dance, shout, run about! Throw confetti in the air, bake a cake or two. Today is a day to celebrate someone. This someone is generous, loving, funny, kind, thoughtful, fun, and an amazing grandfather. Thank you Grandpa, and happy birthday!
My Time at Time Inc.
The buildings make me feel small
But I’ve never felt so important
In the strong, beautiful office
Looking out on the river
I’m with people who love to write
As much as I.
Snow Show
Snow is so many things at once. Sparkling crystals of ice. Piercing weapons of cold. Soft fluffs of cotton. Suffocating layers of sleet. Snowflakes are cold, beautiful, and killers. I love snow. I hate snow. I love snow days. But I hate that the snow is keeping my mom from coming home.
