What Goes Up, Must Come Down

For every beginning
There is an
End
For every
Good
There is
Evil
For every
Up
There is
Down
For every
Warmth
There is
Cold
For every
Smile
There are
Tears

However…
For every
War
There is
Peace
For every
Death
There is
Birth
For every bit
Of Darkness,
There is a bit
Of light.

If You Love Something

If you love something
It doesn’t matter
How much you work
How long you work
How hard you work
Who you work for
What you work for
What you work toward

If you’re doing something
You love,
Keep doing it.
If you’re doing something
You don’t love,
Find something that you do.

Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper

This week, I finished rereading one of my favorite novels, Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper. This book is interesting and thought-provoking. It is the story of a young girl named Melody who is diagnosed with cerbal palsy. Melody is very bright, but she can’t talk and so she ends up going insane! I feel for anybody who has to experience that, for it must be very difficult. Ms. Draper has given us a special gift by writing this novel. I recommend it for anyone with an open mind and open heart.

Seasons

The wind has melted to a soft breeze
Tiny buds pop out on trees
The temperatures are nice and high
Big white clouds, fill the sky

Spring is here
Or so it seems…
But for now, sweet dreams
Spring is already
Almost done,
Here comes summer, here comes fun!

The Croods

I just finished watching one of my favorite movies, The Croods. This animated film is hilarious and heartwarming. The overall message is clear: follow the light. It’s a message that more people should hear. Everyone should know that no matter how bad things look, always find the good in others, and in yourself.

Although this is a very intriguing movie, like every film, it has its flaws. There are some moments when you feel like the movie will never end. The first time I watched The Croods, I burst into tears. This time, I felt like it dragged on a little longer than it should’ve.

Overall, this is a touching family film that will have you laughing, crying, and finding a reason to follow the light.

Imagination

My imagination takes me to a place far away from reality, hidden behind clouds of daydreams. Tucked away between mountains of hopes and wishes, I spend my days meandering on sandy beaches, trekking through snowy mountains, and swimming through blue rivers. The sky is always bright, the grass is always green, and the sea foam is bubbling with light. The world is mine to explore. I soar above the clouds, flying into the sun. Its warmth keeps my heart beating as I leave all my problems on the Earth below. But then, I blink and I land with a thud in reality. However, I still feel the sand between my toes, the wind in my hair, and the snowflakes on my tongue. My imagination never leaves me. And neither does yours.

The Red Pencil

The Red Pencil
By Andrea Davis Pinkney

Is a wondrous novel
That shouts the truth
From inside a story.

It is an enchanting
And exciting tale
About Amira Bright,
A headstrong young girl
Who is kind,
Determined,
And curious about
The world around her.

Amira’s playful spirit
Keeps the story light
As her family struggles
Through dark times.

For me,
This book had a puzzling end
But an inspiring one.

Never stop writing,
Ms. Pinkney.
This book is
A gift to the world.

Snowflakes

Each and every person on this planet
Is different than the next
Inside and out
We are unique and special
In our own way
Like snowflakes,
No two are exactly the same.

Put a few snowflakes together
And you have a family
No matter how many members
No matter their gender
Each family is special
And perfect.

Now, take all the families
All the snowflakes in the world
And put them together…
You get a blizzard
And a beautiful one, too.

Dreams

Dreams are like leaves

They wait patiently

Only to fall when winter comes

To be blown away

With the winds of change

But if you catch one

And hold on tight

That dream might just survive

That dream may not crumble.

Early Morning, Early Evening

The early morning
Is silent and still
The sun still sleeping soundly
Along with the rest of the nation
The sky is a musty gray
And the bitter cold is biting
At the trees
The day is like a dusty book
Sitting silently, untouched
By the breath of life.

The early evening
Is bustling with lights
Of all different colors
All sorts of sounds
All sorts of people
The sky is pink and orange
As the cold wind
Meets the warm sun
As it sets on the horizon
After a long day.
